PALMDALE, CA – Directors of the Antelope Valley-East Kern Water Agency adopted on April 12, 2016, a resolution recognizing Douglas Paterson upon his retirement after 37 years of dedicated and distinguished service to the State Water Contractor Agency.

As the longest serving employee of the agency chartered in 1962, Paterson applied for a landscaper / maintenance job in 1979, stopping by the AVEK office to pick up an application on his commute home from a plumbing job in the San Fernando Valley. The resolution recalled Paterson’s arrival occurred, “at the exact time interviews were being held,” and added that Paterson “impressed the interview panel so much that they offered him (the available) position on the spot.”

Despite having to take a significant pay cut, Paterson took what the resolution called “leap of faith” and “through hard work, dedication and self-motivation, was ultimately promoted from his Landscape/Maintenance position to Superintendent of Plant Operations at AVEK’s Eastside Water Treatment Plant.”

Directors characterized Paterson as “a leader, mentor and friend to all those he come into contact with during his years at the agency.”
